Kennesaw businesswoman running for lieutenant governor

An auto executive from Kennesaw is seeking the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

Sarah Riggs Amico, executive chairman of Kennesaw-based car-hauling company Jack Cooper Holdings, announced Thursday she has launched a campaign website in a bid to become Georgia’s first female lieutenant governor and the first Democrat elected statewide since 2006.

“Assuming a position of leadership is a position of responsibility,” she said. “I’ll be a lieutenant governor that will deliver results and work with other people from a variety of viewpoints to get things done for Georgia’s families.”

Amico will run on a record that will include saving jobs at her company during the Great Recession. In her platform, she said she will emphasize the need to increase vocational and technical training in the state’s high schools and community colleges as well as improving access to affordable health care.
